Ep. 65 - Buying Plants Online

We talk shopping for plants online this week!

While it's already a familiar routine for many plant parents, the prospect of buying a plant, sight-unseen, to have arrive in a box on your doorstep might seem intimidating. We want to discuss some of our experiences and learnings in using the internet to gain access to even more of our plant wants… or as Matthew would call them, "needs." And what's the deal with importing plants and Phytosanitary Certificate? Assuming we're correct, listen to find out!

Mentioned in this episode:

  • the ever-growing online market for plant sales, when we entered it, and how that experience has been, for better or worse

  • why and when to shop online instead of in person, and how to make sure you’ll unbox what you’re expecting

  • what to look for in a plant seller from large companies to small businesses and individuals, domestically and internationally… and the complications that come with importing plants

  • plants that hold up well in shipping, and others that suffer and might become rehab projects

  • what to do with newly unboxed plants to get them off to their best start

These plants did great in shipping, and were all set to be potted up without any hassle right out of the box!

But these did poorly, with significant damage, but they still healthy enough to eventually, gradually bounce back. Sometimes an online plant purchase requires a bit of rehabbing or propagation of healthy tissue, but one takes that risk sometimes.
